Manasota Key History

Manasota Key is another beautiful barrier island to the south of Venice. It is approximately 10 miles long and quite narrow, with the Gulf of Mexico to the West & the Intracoastal waterway and Lemon Bay to the East. The northern access to Manasota Key is by Manasota Beach Rd bridge. There is a public boat ramp right at the bridge, and Manasota Beach is located at the bridge as well. You can walk to Casperson Beach (approx 4 miles) as the north end of Manasota Key is connected to Venice Island, but you cannot drive it as the road ends.

Manasota Key Sand & Beaches

There are two bridges connecting Manasota Key to the mainland. The north bridge is on Manasota Key Rd just south of Venice and leads directly to Manasota Beach. This is also a great beach to look for fossilized shark's teeth. About four miles south of Manasota Beach is Blind Pass Beach and the Hermitage Artist's Retreat, and near the south end of the key is Englewood Beach as well as Stump Pass Beach, a State Park. The southern access to Manasota Key is by Beach Road bridge, which is right at Englewood Beach. There are a number of restaurants & bars in that area that are quite popular. The main road on the key is a designated “Canopy Road” (Oak Tree Canopy) and is popular with bicyclists as well as being a beautiful drive. Housing options include a mobile home park “Gulf to Bay” with prices in the $150K range. Condos start in the upper $200K range, and single family homes are available from $300K all the way up to Gulf and Bay front estates priced in the millions.
